The First Flat-Packed Wooden Bike You Assemble Yourself. The Sandwichbike by Basten Leijh.
Posted on 00:00 by Unknown
It's new. It's cool. It comes in the mail and you put it together. Dubbed the Sandwichbike, this Dutch Design original was inspired by the concept of flat packing, home assembly and Bleigh Industries' never-ending drive to create exceptional products.
Presented during the 2013 Salone del Mobile, the Sandwichbike wooden bicycle by Dutch designer Basten Leijh will start production. Made of two wooden panels, this bicycle was inspired by the concept of flat packing and home assembly.
The Sandwichbike fits in a small, flat package, so they can send it to you by post. The fun will begin the moment the postman rings your doorbell. Everything you need is in the box including the tools, so you can start assembling right away. In total, there are less than 50 parts. If you can make a sandwich, you can surely build a Sandwichbike.
To enable to make it a build-it-yourself product, Basten Leijh rethrought most aspects of the classic velocipede. Instead of a welded frame, the vehicle is engineered as a “sandwich” of two weather coated frames of layered plywood. Bonded together by “smart cylinders”, the frames and components become a durable and attractive piece of technology.

The price of a Sandwichbike starts at € 799. They start delivering by post in October this year! Bleijh is now taking pre-orders at Sandwichbikes.com.
